عثمان خواجہ کا جذباتی ریٹائرمنٹ اعلان: ’پاکستانی نژاد مسلمان لڑکے کو آسٹریلیا کی ٹیم میں نہ کھیلنے کی بات کہی گئی، اب دیکھو میں کہاں ہوں‘
سڈنی: آسٹریلیا کی کرکٹ ٹیم کے پہلے مسلمان اور پاکستانی نژاد بلے باز عثمان خواجہ نے سڈنی ٹیسٹ کے بعد بین الاقوامی کرکٹ سے ریٹائرمنٹ کا اعلان کر دیا۔ جمعرات کو سڈنی کرکٹ گراؤنڈ میں منعقدہ 50 منٹ طویل جذباتی پریس کانفرنس میں انہوں نے اپنے کریئر کی جدوجہد، نسلی تعصبات اور کامیابیوں کا کھل کر ذکر کیا۔
عثمان خواجہ نے کہا: "میں پاکستان سے تعلق رکھنے والا مسلمان لڑکا ہوں. جسے بتایا گیا تھا کہ وہ کبھی بھی آسٹریلوی کرکٹ ٹیم کے لیے نہیں کھیل پائے گا۔ اب میری طرف دیکھو۔”
39 سالہ بائیں ہاتھ کے اوپنر نے آسٹریلیا کی نمائندگی کو اپنی زندگی کی سب سے بڑی کامیابی قرار دیا، مگر ساتھ ہی تسلیم کیا کہ وہ آج بھی "نسلی دقیانوسی خیالات” اور امتیازی سلوک سے لڑ رہے ہیں۔
